Q&A: "How can I make a product to help with applied learning?"

Today's listener wants to help people improve their skill of learning itself — not any specific topic, but learning how to learn. How does that become a product or service?

Dave wants to help people learn more effectively — not teach a specific skill, but improve the underlying skill of learning itself. The benefit is clear and genuinely valuable. The challenge: turning it into a specific product.

First step: survey what already exists. There are apps that use games and challenges to improve cognitive function, podcasts and blogs dedicated entirely to learning methodology, and courses built around specific frameworks. This doesn't mean there's no room for Dave — but understanding the landscape will help him see what's missing and what he'd actually want to do.

One honest observation: teaching "how to learn" is conceptually higher-level than teaching a specific skill. It can be harder to communicate the benefit to someone who isn't already sold on the idea. It's often easier to draw people in with a specific skill ("I'll teach you to write better") and let the meta-learning principles come through in how you teach.

That said, if you're genuinely great at helping people learn, the method question is worth exploring — just make sure the product can clearly answer "what will I be able to do after this that I can't do now?"
