Jiji from Orange County, California combined her passion for software development, photography, and whole-food cooking into a meal-planning app for paleo and natural-food lovers. Now that it's live, she needs to get it found.
App promotion isn't entirely different from promoting any other digital product — but for app-store visibility specifically, a few things matter most:
- Keywords are critical — research what new users search for after they need your solution, not what researchers search before buying
- Get initial reviews as fast as possible — even a handful makes a difference
- Respond to all reviews (app store algorithms notice developer responsiveness)
- Submit to app directories — search "app directories" to find a list
- If it's paid, consider making it free or very cheap early on to build momentum and reviews
Getting featured by Apple or Google is the holy grail — research what it takes. It's competitive, but it does happen.
