I often call reselling the easiest, simplest, and quickest way into the side hustle world. None of those words means it's the best, and it's a fair amount of work. Today's caller wants to know if there's a shortcut.
I enjoyed the story of Jake in The Money Tree, and I understand it's simple to buy things at yard sales and sell them online for more. But it seems like a lot of work: research, finding items, listing them, talking to buyers, taking payment, shipping. For a business that doesn't seem terribly lucrative, is there an easier way? Or will I get better and faster once I start?
Yes, there are a lot of mini-projects. But every one of them is easy to identify, and that matters. With bigger creative work, uncertainty is what freezes you. There are so many ways to write a book that I can get stuck on the decisions alone. Reselling is simple: buy something at one price, sell it at a higher one, and do it again. The key is finding items you can restock, then building a workflow for listing, buyer messages, and shipping.
And yes, you'll get better and faster. As for lucrative, plenty of people we've featured on the show have done well with it. Even when it doesn't pay much, it's like a hobby that pays you while you learn skills. Often, getting started gives people the motivation to move on to something else. That's what Jake does in The Money Tree.
