How can you manage multiple side hustles without burning out? I love this question. A lot of people out there have been doing more than one side hustle. Some people have got like five different jobs, jobs, side hustles, little businesses that they're building on the side or sometimes in tandem with a full-time job. All kinds of people out there with lots of responsibility, whatever it looks like for you.

And I've said from the very beginning, I think the first week of side hustle school, I was like, who is my target market? Who is my ideal customer or my ideal listener I should say, since there's nothing for sale. But the ideal listener is someone who is busy. Someone who's busy, doesn't have a ton of time to invest, but wants to invest in themselves in their limited time because they want the future to be better than the present. They would love to have a situation where they have more money coming in so they can make better choices for themselves, do more of what's important for them.

And so if that's you, you're the reason I make this podcast every single day. If you have ever felt overwhelmed by balancing multiple projects, let's see if we can give you a tip or two, some kind of practical strategy to help you prioritize, stay organized and maintain your sanity. Listener question and my answer coming up in just 30 seconds. [Music]

Hi, this is Mia from Atlanta. I'm juggling a few different side hustles and I'm finding it challenging to manage them all without burning out.

I know you talk a lot about balancing multiple projects on your podcast. What are some best practices for managing multiple side hustles while maintaining my sanity and productivity? How can I produce tasks and stay organized? Your advice has been a lifesaver for me and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Well, I hear you, Mia. And I hear our other listeners out there who have this kind of struggle when there's so many things you could do and you got multiple projects, multiple hustles. It's fun, you know, but also like you need to stay organized. You need to take care of yourself. You need to have some time for yourself.

That's not all about work, whatever the kind of work is. So what do you do here? Well, I like to do a little bit of triage and prioritization. You know, not all tasks are created equal. Some will have a much bigger impact on your goals than others.

So before you spend any time working on your side hustle, like if you've got an hour a day, let's say it's really important to know in advance how you're going to spend that hour. 'Cause if you just sit down at your computer or whatever your workstation is, you tend to gravitate towards some common patterns. You tend to like go to the same websites you always look at. You tend to like get sucked into email or responding to something as opposed to actually thinking, how do I build the next product? Or how do I create a killer offer or put together a promotion that's going to make money?

So just doing some little advance prioritization really helps a lot. Time blocking is also great. Speaking of an amount of time, whatever time you have, dedicate specific blocks in time to work on each side hustle or each project, whatever it is. I'm writing a book right now. I'm doing a lot of book edits.

So every day, or at least most days, I am saying, okay, from this hour or whatever the time period is, it's all I do is work on book edits. I don't look at anything else. This is the time that's blocked out for that. So that kind of process helps ensure that each side hustle gets the attention it needs. It prevents you from being a little bit scattered.

Next, doing some regular reviews and adjustments is good. Don't be afraid to let go of things. If you've got five hustles and one of them isn't really doing anything right now, just don't worry about it. Like focus on the other stuff. And if you got a new idea, you have to balance that idea with your existing commitments.

But I do think it's good to be flexible and be willing to look at new ideas. Ultimately, you got into the world of side hustling or you started thinking about what you can do to increase your income because you are dissatisfied with your current situation. So if you want something new, sometimes it takes a new idea. Hope those things are helpful. And of course, don't forget about self-care.

Gotta take care of yourself, make time for exercise, eating well, at least whenever possible. And some of those activities that you enjoy outside of work. Listeners, I'm cheering you on. I'm wishing you the best. I want to hear your success story.

I know sometimes it comes with difficulty along the way, but ultimately there's success. That's why we make this podcast for you every day. All right, that's it for now. My name is Chris Guillebeau. This is Side Hustle School.
