Life gets busy. I know that, you know that. How do you maintain motivation in the midst of it all? That is what today's listener is wondering about. Welcome to Side Hustle School.
My name's Chris Guillebeau. We're gonna hear from Tyler, a graphic designer from Michigan who has recently started a hustle. He is eager to take his business to the next level. He's also confident in his abilities, which, you know, good for him. That's great.
But he's facing a common challenge. And this challenge is, you know, just kind of staying focused when life gets busy. As I said, you know, we all know that life gets busy. So it's easy to get sidetracked, especially when you're juggling multiple responsibilities, like probably 100% of our audience. I make this show every day for busy people.
And so Tyler's looking for practical tips to help him stay on track. Let's see if we can find solutions that might be helpful for you as well. All right, stay tuned. [Music]
Hey, my name's Tyler, and I'm calling from Grand Haven, Michigan. I recently started a side hustle providing graphic design services, but I'm ready to take my business to the next level.
I'm confident in my abilities, but it can get tough to stay on track. - Can you provide some practical tips for staying motivated and focused even when life gets hectic? [Music]
Hey, Tyler, what's up? Thanks for calling in from Michigan. You know, it's totally true.
Staying motivated and focused is a huge challenge, especially when life gets busy. So here are a couple of tips that I have found helpful myself. And hopefully this is not just for Tyler, but some of our other listeners out there. So set achievable goals. Let's make sure you have some real goals.
Like I do believe in challenge and kind of pushing yourself a bit, but it's so helpful to take those big goals and break them into these manageable tasks, set deadlines for each one, just to be able to see the milestones and have a sense of timeline. And just like, okay, here's where I'm going, but here's where I've been. And I've accomplished a lot so far. Tyler has already got started. He's already providing those services.
So let's set some goals for where you want to be three months from now, six months from now, and so on. Next, whenever possible, surround yourself with supportive people. And this can be challenging sometimes too, speaking of challenge, but just having a network of friends and peers can be a great source of motivation and inspiration. So, you know, see if you can connect with other people, other side hustlers, either in your area or online, who are either doing the same thing, or at least, you know, working towards a similar mission. And last but not least, remember why you started.
Okay, so speaking of achievable goals, like why did you choose to invest in yourself? Of all the things that you could do, you know, you could just play more video games or watch more TV at night, and nothing wrong with games or TV, but like you've chosen to take some time and to invest in building out this business. So just remembering that can be a powerful motivation of its own. You know, you wanted to make extra money and, you know, probably not just extra money, but you wanted something about the autonomy, the creative process, the sense of pride that comes with starting a revenue generating project and seeing it take off. So I think, you know, that can be something you point to and say, oh, this is why I'm doing it.
You know, and if you get off track, go back to that point. What drew you to it in the first place? If you find yourself drifting from that, maybe just, you know, ask yourself, what can you do to return? All right, Tyler, I am cheering you on. Listeners, I'm cheering you on as well.
