Episode 1365In the early days of blogs, companies and people who didn’t know any better would refer to “hits”—as in, how many hits does your website get? The metric is meaningless, so they started measuring page views and unique visitors, which is far more precise. Well, engagement is the hit—everyone wants people who will not only consume content but participate somehow. All of the algorithms reward posts that get more comments—which is why you now see all kinds of people trying to game the system (e.g. “Tag a friend” on Instagram). Today’s listener wants to get more comments … how can she do that, and—perhaps more importantly—is this the right objective?
