Now, in this episode, we're gonna explore the best posting frequency for social media, especially in light of how do you adapt to changing algorithms?

So it's a big thing these days. If you want your post to be seen, you have to consider the algorithm. I think you also have to consider yourself, your own mental health as well. I'll talk about that in my answer. But nevertheless, if you're wondering how often you should post to maximize engagement, let's do a shout out to our sponsor and the listener question from Hakim, followed by my answer.

Hi Chris, I'm Hakim from Oakland and I've been trying to grow my social media presence. I'm wondering about the best posting frequency. Should I start posting multiple times a day to boost engagement or is there a better strategy? Has your advice on this changed over time with the evolving social media algorithms? Your podcast has been a huge help in navigating the complexities of social media marketing.

And I'd love to hear your current thoughts on this. - Hakim, thanks for the question. I think it's important to separate a couple of things here. We will talk about algorithms because that does matter these days. You can have lots of followers, but people won't see your posts.

Or you can not have a lot of followers, but if you're posting the right kind of content, then you can actually reach a lot of people. And this is all due to the increasing influence of TikTok, which kind of created this model, or maybe it's transformed or evolved an existing model. Doesn't really matter. But the point is that the algorithm matters a lot in terms of whether people see your posts or not. I also think though, you got to think about your own sanity, your own mental health.

And if people are like, you need to be posting six to eight times a day, like I've seen people recommend that. I'm like, who has time for that? I mean, maybe if you are a social media person, like you're a social media manager and you're batching all this content and just stuff goes out all the time on corporate accounts, perhaps. But for most of us, that's a pretty busy kind of thing. It just takes a lot of time, a lot of attention.

And I've heard from so many side hustlers and small business owners really over the years that their social media is actually not driving their business, like their revenue. So what is your goal? Are you trying to get sales, get customers? Maybe social media is great for that or maybe not. So first things first, we got to figure out what works for you.

As for the algorithm and such and platform specific recommendations though, if you can do once a day, that's great. That's a good general recommendation. Posting more than that doesn't always help with your visibility, especially if your content is not engaging or valuable. Like that's what's really going to help is posting something that is interesting and gets attention and likes comments. And then you do more of that.

So if that's only once or twice a week, that's better than posting a bunch of stuff that nobody likes or comments on. It's just not effective. Also consistency matters. So algorithms do favor accounts that post regularly. So whatever it is, just kind of keep doing that.

I think that's more important than trying to game the system or hack things. It's just very difficult these days and it's a very short-term kind of battle compared to what could you build over time that actually is not dependent on an algorithm or on meta or TikTok or any other big company bestowing their favor upon you. Like there's something you can do that's not dependent on that. And I always encourage people to think about what that might be for them. That's what I got.

Hakeem, I hope it's helpful. Listeners, I hope it's helpful to you. I hope the podcast is helpful to you. That's why I make it every day. Let me know how I can be more helpful.
