In this week's First $1,000 segment, we hear from Max Hockley, who goes by the YouTube name Silver Picker. He buys and resells old coins, silver, and precious metals — and he does it very well, sourcing much of it at estate sales.
Max brings a lot of energy to his story (consider yourself warned). After one summer of picking and reselling, he made around $10,000 — a strong result for a college student turned coin reseller.
His channel documents the hunt, from estate sales to some genuinely unusual sourcing (he once bought Russian gold coins at a speed dating event). It's a good reminder that there are markets in everything — and that a niche you're genuinely enthusiastic about can turn into real money.
