Welcome to Set us in school. Welcome as well to Throwback Thursday. This is our weekly segment where we take a look at someone whose story has evolved since we first featured them. My name's Chris Guillebeau, so glad you're here. Now let's see what have we got here, what's coming up today.
Well, last week we heard from a Bay Area beekeeper who slings honey to the tune of $40,000 a year part time. That's right, you can make some real money in the world of honey and you can make some real money in all kinds of different worlds, right? That's what it's all about here, helping you make extra money without quitting your job. So today in our latest feature, we're gonna hear from the founder of a children's party hosting business. Kids, parties, could be birthday parties, but could be also something else.
What has happened since we first heard from her, I believe her name is Sarah. So let's hear directly from Sarah. I'll come back at the end with a quick wrap up. [Music]
I'm Sarah, the proud owner of Little Princess Parties, the children's party planning business of your dreams. I started it when my daughter was still a little girl and I was always on the lookout for fun and unique birthday party ideas for her.
I quickly realized there just wasn't much out there that really captured the magic and whimsy of childhood. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. Fast forward a few years and Little Princess Parties is now the go-to choice for parents looking to create unforgettable birthday parties for their kids, or at least that's how I describe it. It's still a side hustle, but I take it very seriously. I specialize in everything from princess parties to superhero adventures and I love nothing more than seeing the looks of pure joy and the little one's faces that I work with.
Most of my parties are for kids ages two to six, but I have done some for older kids too. Going back a bit, I've always been a bit of a girly girl at heart and I have a real soft spot for all things princessy. So when my daughter was little, I threw her a princess-themed birthday party and it was a huge hit. From there and after I surveyed the market to make sure I hadn't missed something obvious, I started offering my services to other families. I quickly learned that the key to success in this business is all about the details.
You have to pay attention to every single aspect of the party from the balloons and decorations to the food and games. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it to see the little ones light up with joy. One of the biggest highlights was the day that I was hired to host a party for the daughter of a famous movie star. It was a real pinchy moment and I was so grateful for the opportunity. But more than that, I was just so proud of what I had built.
If someone else wanted to start a business like mine, the first thing they should know is that it's a lot of work. I mean, we're talking about kids. Of course it's hard work, but it's a lot of fun. You have to be a bit of a kid at heart and you have to have real passion for making kids happy. You also need to be organized and detail oriented because the little things really do matter.
But if you're up for the challenge, I promise you that it's worth it. There's nothing quite like seeing the look of pure joy on the little one's faces and knowing that you made that happen. So if you have a love for all things, princessy, a passion for making kids happy and a willingness to work hard, then this might be the next side hustle for you. [Music]
