Episode 2237
Can I interest you in some floppy disks? Do you even know what floppy disks are? I got my first computer when I was five. My grandpa passed away and I inherited his Commodore 64. I know that some people have no idea what I’m talking about, but for the sake of the episode, I’ll continue. This computer (and many others like it) used floppy disks to store data and applications. If you had a game you wanted to play, you would insert the disk and load it up. This turned into cartridges, discs, and flash cards—and now even for the fanciest of games, you can download them directly to your computer or console. Wow! That’s a lot of context. But here’s what I’m coming to: a listener wants to open an online store selling floppy disks and cassette tapes. He thinks there’s a renaissance for these items. Is he right—and if so, what steps should he take?"I'd like to start an online store called "Retro Resale." It was always my dream to have a record store, but I don't think I'm ready for a proper brick-and-mortar. Selling online takes off a lot of pressure and will allow me to scale up without spending much—except on inventory, which I want to invest in. It's not just records, though. I want to sell floppy disks and cassette tapes. I figure there's enough of a retro and vintage audience out there these days. I just need to find them. So that's where I need help. If you were going to start Retro Resale, how would you do it?"Listen to today's episode to learn more... Yours in the revolution,
