Brianna’s success begins from recognizing that something she wanted was something that other people might want too. Then, instead of just recognizing or noticing that, she took action on it and ended up having a tremendous first hustle experience in opening the pop-up shop.

Fun Fact

Brianna worked hard. Outside of one day over the course of the whole month, she was there 12 hours a day, and she’d come home and answer emails and get ready for the next day.

This kind of schedule is probably not sustainable in the long-term, but that’s OK. It’s a holiday pop-up shop that’s only open for a limited amount of time. It was also a major opportunity for Brianna and she was thrilled to do it!

Oliver’s story is a classic side hustler narrative. He didn’t know how to do something, so he figured it out. The story also illustrates an important side hustler principle: start before you’re ready, then improve as you go along. Oliver didn’t get caught up in lots of administrative details—he focused entirely on the customer experience.

Fun Fact

Prior to his friend asking him to shoot her wedding, Oliver had never worked a wedding before. Terrified that his inexperience would ruin her big day, he created a listing on Craigslist to shoot a stranger’s ceremony in order to get some experience for the big day. That first gig earned him $250, but these days he’s pulling in at least $3,500 per ceremony.
